Group Question: What is our primary desire for our small group this year?
Our heart is to help everyone see themselves the way God sees you. This is a huge step because sometimes when we have self doubt, low self esteem, or negative voices in our head – we can have a distorted picture of who God really is.
Group Question:
Circle Question: What is humility
Defining Humility is actually pretty difficult. We may think its thinking better of others, making yourself low like a servant, etc.
Let’s watch a video and see a potential perspective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Kl9rtr7RVg&t=5197s
So there are some primary ideas in there:
- The idea that God wants you to build the greatest cathedral and rejoice that it is the greatest. Even just as you might rejoice if your friend/neighbor did it.
- He always gives back to them with his left hand, what he has taken with the right
- Satan’s primary goal is Idolatry. And to pull your attention away from God and onto yourself if the chief aim
- and if they can do that, they can begin to help you have a low opinion of yourself, even if your talents are good/positive/God-given
- Satan can use the base of humility/low-opinion of yourself, to generate self-contempt, contempt towards others, cynicism, and cruelty.
What do you think about the idea that humility means to have a low opinion of ones self,?
Have you experienced this?
What tends to happen in human nature is we like to grasp for whatever standard is nearby. If someone steals ice cream from another, we say “That’s not fair!” but by whose standards?
If we use bodybuilding for an example, I am a buff guy, but look at that other dude! he is way stronger! but your measuring yourself to another fallen human and when playing the comparison game, everybody loses.
Instead we must try to let God speak to us and tell us about HIS standard. How HE made us, God’s perspective on our talents, God’s encouragement of our hearts, minds, bodies.
When we try to fit into worldly standards, we actually fall into Idolatry. When we fall into this idolatry that takes our eyes off of God, we are prone to lust and anger/hatred. Then if we let it sit too long without repentance, we will inevitably do a violent (physical, verbal, etc.) to take the object of our lust(envy, jealousy, etc.)
Therefore this week,
Take some time to ask God what he is saying about you.
Also take some time to ask God to reveal blockages. Whether that is a sin issue or a image/belief that prevents you from activating into God’s full potential. This is subtle, but most times reveals itself in bad experiences and the voice that tells you, “your not good enough” or “if anybody knew who i “really” was, they wouldn’t say I’m a good person.”
